Dìdi (弟弟)

Dìdi (弟弟) takes place in the Bay Area during the summer of 2008 and tells the story of a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy (Izaac Wang), as he learns how to skate, flirt, and love his mother (Joan Chen). By turns funny and moving, this directorial debut takes us on a thrilling ride through the ups and downs of adolescence and chronicles the hardships of being a first-generation immigrant.

Written and directed by filmmaker Sean Wang, Dìdi (弟弟) premiered in competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival receiving critical and audience acclaim and winning two awards in the U.S. Dramatic category: the Audience Award and the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast. Wang previously received his first Academy Award® nomination in the Best Documentary Short category for his film Nai Nai & Wai Po which is available on Disney+.

The film is a recipient of the Dolby Creator Lab Grant, a post-production grant that enables filmmakers to finish their films in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Dìdi (弟弟) will be in theaters, released by Focus Features, on July 26th.

"Sound is the secret weapon to any emotional gateway in filmmaking... Using Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos allowed us to really sink into that subjectivity... I think our whole goal with the movie was to make sure you felt the way that [the hero] felt, which is life and death."
